Welcome
We’re really looking forward to welcoming you to County Dance. We’ve put together some information to help make your first visit go as smoothly as possible.
Firstly, let’s talk shoes! There’s no need to wear specialised footwear at this stage. Later on, if you want to invest in dance shoes, we can provide guidance. For now, something with a smooth sole is ideal - composition soles usually work best. Trainers can sometimes grip the floor too much, while leather soles may feel a little slippery. Most importantly, don’t stress - wear whatever you feel comfortable in. The same applies to clothing: choose something you can move in easily and feel comfortable wearing.
We are very fortunate to have our own car park located directly opposite the dance school in Southampton Street. For those of you arriving by car and using our car park, the image below shows its location. As you come down Southampton Street, you need to be in the left-hand lane and turn left by the car garage (named Southampton Street Garage). Drive up a gentle slope and turn left, and once through the open gate, you are in our car park.
Our dance studio, County Dance, is situated in St. Giles Church Hall. This is located on the right-hand side of Southampton St. as you approach town. Please enter the studio by ascending the stairs (pictured below). There are two sets of doors - the first, the large original church hall doors, and the second set are security doors. If these doors are locked when you arrive, please press the small doorbell located to the right-hand side of the Church hall doors (the large outer doors), and a member of County Dance will welcome you in.
Once you're inside the building, the main dance studio is to your right (to your left are the toilets). Please come in and you should be able to see a registration desk where someone will welcome you. We should have your name/s on our list (but don't worry if not), and if you’re paying 'on the door' please settle up then.

You will be issued a card, which you need to bring to each lesson and present at the registration desk.
Once you're registered, feel free to place any coats or belongings on a chair around the edge of the dance floor and take a seat. Depending on the day and time of your class there maybe some personal tuition happening on the dance floor which will finish just before your scheduled class.
At the beginning of your class time, your teacher - either James, Mary or Anna - will then welcome you onto the dance floor!
